Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a mechanism for granting recognition of learning outcomes obtained through non-formal or informal education, or work experience relevant to the field of study. RPL aims to expand access to higher education, accelerate the duration of study, and support the principle of lifelong learning, in line with Permendikbudristek No. 41 of 2021 on RPL and the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology No. 91/E/KPT/2024 on the Technical Guidelines for RPL.
Types of RPL at Faperta Unmul
The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Mulawarman applies RPL Type A, which consists of:
RPL Type A1 - Credit Transfer
Recognition of learning outcomes from formal education at another relevant and equivalent higher education institution, in order to continue studies at Faperta Unmul (credit transfer).
RPL Type A2 - Non-formal/Informal/Work Experience
Recognition of learning outcomes through non-formal or informal education and/or relevant work experience after completing at least senior high school/equivalent, assessed as equivalent to learning outcomes and convertible into credit units (SKS).
Important note: RPL accelerates the completion of studies through credit (SKS) conversion, but participants do not automatically obtain a diploma. Participants are still required to complete all courses and learning outcomes that have not been recognized through the formal education process in the intended study program.
RPL Type A1 Procedure (from Formal Education)
RPL Type A1 facilitates applicants transferring study programs through a credit transfer process. The documents assessed are at minimum the academic transcript, taking into account the diploma (if any) as well as the accreditation certificates of the study program and the home university. The recognized results are established through a Credit Transfer Recognition Decree from the Rector of Unmul.
- Applies to the Bachelor's (S1) and Master's (S2) levels (not for the Doctoral S3 level).
- Cannot be used to switch tracks from vocational to academic or vice versa; vocational graduates may register for the RPL Type A2 scheme by preparing a portfolio.
- Credit transfer is granted up to a maximum of 70% of total credits (SKS) for both the Bachelor's (S1) and Master's (S2) Programs.
RPL Type A2 Procedure (Non-formal, Informal, and Work Experience)
RPL Type A2 facilitates members of the public in pursuing education at Faperta Unmul by submitting learning outcomes from non-formal or informal education and work experience (competency certificates, training certificates, employment certificates). The assessment is carried out in two stages:
- Assessment - self-assessment by the applicant of their own abilities, aligned with the indicators of the Learning Outcomes (CP) of the intended study program, particularly the specific-skills domain.
- Recognition - the self-assessment results are verified by the study program's RPL assessment team to determine the number of credits (SKS) recognized; it is submitted by the Study Program Coordinator through the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and the Dean to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs as the head of the Unmul RPL Team, until the Rector's Decree is issued.
Credit recognition is up to a maximum of 70% of total credits (SKS) for both the Bachelor's (S1) and Master's (S2) Programs. After obtaining recognition, applicants continue their education in their chosen study program until they obtain a diploma.
Applicant Requirements
General Requirements - Type A1
- Diploma (if any).
- Academic transcript.
- Accreditation certificates of the study program and the home higher education institution.
- Curriculum handbook of the home institution at the time of study.
General Requirements - Type A2
- At least 2 years of work experience.
- Senior high school/equivalent or vocational diploma (Bachelor's level) or a Bachelor's (S1) diploma (Master's level).
- Academic transcript and curriculum vitae.
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the police.
- Self-assessment document against the Learning Outcomes (CP) and/or supporting documents of work experience.
Specific requirements in the form of forms: Type A1 applicants complete Form A(1) Application, Form A-1(2) Curriculum Vitae, Form A-1(3) Pre-assessment Consultation, and Form A-1(4) Self-assessment; Type A2 applicants complete Form A(1) Application and Form A-2(2) Curriculum Vitae together with the Type A2 assessment forms.
