The laboratory is a supporting facility for the delivery of education within the Faculty, based on Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 9 of 2015 on the Organization and Work Procedures of Universitas Mulawarman (OTK Unmul). The Integrated Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture was first established through SK Rektor Unmul No. 1737/SK/2018 dated 6 September 2018. The Faperta Integrated Laboratory is expected to support the realization of the vision of the Faculty of Agriculture, namely "To Become an Excellent Higher Education Institution in the Field of Humid Tropical Agriculture".
The Faculty of Agriculture manages 16 laboratories spread across four departments/study programs as well as one faculty-level educational farm. Department of Agroecotechnology
Agronomy and Greenhouse Laboratory
Head: Ali Zainal Abidin Alaydrus, S.T.P., M.P.
A laboratory under the Department of Agroecotechnology that supports practical work and research in agronomy and crop cultivation, equipped with a greenhouse (green house).
Main facilities: Photosynthesis System, Green Leaf Area Meter, Germinator, Grain Moisture Meter, Seed Divider, Versatile Environmental Test Chamber, stereo microscope, and oven.
Plant Pests and Diseases Laboratory
Head: Dr. Abdul Sahid, S.P., M.P.
The Plant Pests and Diseases Science Laboratory under the Department of Agroecotechnology for practical work and research in plant protection.
Main facilities: stereo microscope and student microscope, Versatile Environmental Test Chamber, germinator, electric balance, oven, and centrifuge.
Soil Science Laboratory
Head: Dr. Rabiatul Jannah, S.P., M.P.
A laboratory under the Department of Agroecotechnology for the analysis of the chemical and physical properties of soil; located in Gedung Tedjomantri Sutedjo.
Main facilities: Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), spectrophotometer, flame photometer, automatic sieve shaker, shaking machine, centrifuge, analytical balance, and water distillation apparatus.
Tissue Culture Laboratory
Head: Ir. Alvera Prihatini Dewi Nazari, M.Si.
A laboratory under the Department of Agroecotechnology for the in-vitro propagation of plants as well as plant biology research.
Main facilities: Laminar Air Flow Cabinet, autoclave, protein/DNA and isozyme electrophoresis, spectrophotometer, trinocular microscope, rotary shaker, pH ion meter, and water bath.
Biotechnology Laboratory
Head: Indah Sriwahyuni, B.Sc., M.P.
Education, research, and community service in the field of Plant Biotechnology (molecular biology and non-conventional breeding). It occupies ±645 m² on the third floor of Gedung OECF with 3 screen houses, and offers DNA analysis as well as molecular markers that are generally not yet served by other laboratories in Kalimantan Timur.
Main facilities: Laminar Air Flow, Mini PCR, mini electrophoresis, fluorescence microscope, hybridisation oven & shaker, autoclave, freezer, and analytical balance.
Services: practical work (Tissue Culture & Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology), research and internships (including foreign students from KMUTT and Naresuan University), as well as community services (equipment/room loans, training, visits).
Cartography and Geographic Information System Laboratory
Head: Yoga Toyibulah, S.Si., M.Sc.
A laboratory under the Department of Agroecotechnology; recorded as the only Faculty of Agriculture in Kalimantan to own a GPS Geodetic.
Main facilities: Total Station, Digital Theodolite, GPS Geodetic (Topcon Hiper GA & GR-5), DJI Phantom 4 Pro Drone, A0+ plotter, 8 PC units with ArcGIS/ERDAS/QGIS, as well as Garmin GPS.
Services: drone training, land surveying instrument practical work, and basic ArcGIS training.
Department of Agricultural Product Technology
Post-Harvest and Packaging Laboratory
Head: Dr. Wiwit Murdianto, S.TP., M.P.
A laboratory of the THP Department that develops chemical aspects (phytochemistry, antioxidants), post-harvest technology (drying, fermentation, raw material extraction), and the packaging of agricultural products. Located in Gedung C9, 2nd floor, Kampus Gunung Kelua.
Services: phytochemical tests (phenols, flavonoids, tannins), β-carotene and vitamin C, antioxidants (DPPH/ABTS/FRAP), shelf-life analysis, raw material drying and extraction, as well as pH, viscosity, and color tests.
Agricultural Product Processing and Quality Control Laboratory
Head: Dr. Sulistyo Prabowo, A.Md., S.TP., M.P., M.PH.
A laboratory of the THP Department for the processing of agricultural products characteristic of the humid tropics as well as quality control through product standardization, formulation studies, and systematic sensory evaluation.
Services: physical tests (viscosity, total dissolved solids, expansion/melting capacity, overrun), sensory/organoleptic tests, processing and quality control of food products, training on processed products, as well as the MSME Clinic.
Agricultural Product Chemistry and Biochemistry Laboratory
Head: Prof. Dr. Ir. Bernatal Saragih, S.P., M.Si., IPU.
A laboratory of the THP Department for practical work, research, community service, and chemical–biochemical analysis services for agricultural products. It occupies the Faperta Integrated Lab Building, Jl. Tanah Grogot.
Main facilities: Gas Chromatography, HPLC, spectrophotometer, automatic bomb calorimeter, Kjeldahl apparatus, Soxhlet extractor, furnace, oven, digital balance, and centrifuge.
Services: proximate analysis, carbohydrates, oil quality (FFA, peroxide value), minerals (Ca, Fe, P), vitamin C, antioxidants, as well as gelatin and pectin extraction.
Agricultural Product Microbiology Laboratory
Head: Agustu Sholeh Pujokaroni, S.TP., M.Sc., Ph.D.
A laboratory of the THP Department for practical work and research in food microbiology, including the detection of foodborne pathogenic bacteria and the exploration of microbes in food materials.
Main facilities: Laminar Air Flow, incubator, autoclave, micropipette, vortex, analytical balance, and oven.
Services: Total Plate Count (TPC), total mold-yeast, total coliform, total E. coli, total lactic acid bacteria, and antimicrobial activity tests.
Department of Agribusiness
Agribusiness Management Laboratory
Head: Hj. Syarifah Maryam, S.P., M.P.
A laboratory of the Department of Agribusiness with a scope covering statistical analysis and data processing (SPSS), serving practical work across courses and five study programs within the faculty.
Main facilities: computer equipment, printer, and seminar room.
Services: statistical data processing (validity, reliability, regression, ANOVA, correlation), financial analysis, SPSS and MS Office courses, as well as seminar room loans.
Communication Science and Community Empowerment Laboratory
Head: Gisky Andria Putra, M.Si.
A laboratory of the Department of Agribusiness for the development of communication and community empowerment.
Services: HR management training, communication training (presentation and public speaking), and radio broadcasting.
Department of Animal Science
Animal Nutrition Laboratory
Head: Ir. Julinda Romauli Manullang, M.P.
Established in 2005 and became the forerunner of the establishment of the Animal Science Study Program (2008). It focuses on the analysis of the chemical components of animal feed (proximate analysis) and the nutritional content of animal-based food materials, as well as the production of herbal feed additives; it has become a reference for feed sample analysis for many parties.
Services: practical work, research, community service, and feed quality testing services for farmers, related agencies, as well as the livestock and palm oil partnership industries.
Animal Production and Technology Laboratory
Head: Ari Wibowo, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D.
Formed on 1 June 2013 as a place for lecturers and students to conduct research in the fields of animal production and animal product technology.
Main facilities: Texture Analyzer, Colour Analyzer, refrigerated microcentrifuge, meat grinder, pH meter, oven, sample storage freezer, and chicken collection coop.
Services: practical work in animal product technology (meat, milk, eggs) as well as the testing of meat products (cooking loss, tenderness, texture), eggs (Haugh Unit), and milk (Gerber fat, methylene blue reduction test).
Animal Reproduction Laboratory
Head: drh. Khoiru Indana, M.Si.
Established in 2018 (SK Rektor No. 1737/SK/2018) covering the disciplines of animal breeding and genetics, animal physiology and reproduction, as well as reproductive biotechnology.
Main facilities: semen testing and artificial insemination unit, PCR, electrophoresis, ELISA, microscopes (including inverted microscope), incubator, as well as model animal cages.
Services: practical work (Animal Reproduction Science, Artificial Insemination, Animal Breeding Science) and research (cryopreservation of Nunukan chicken sperm, molecular sexing, and embryo teratology).
Faculty Educational Farm
Teluk Dalam Experimental Farm
Head: Andi Suryadi, S.P., M.P.
A field laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture covering ±18 ha in Desa Karang Tunggal, Kecamatan Tenggarong Seberang, Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara (±25 minutes from Samarinda). It serves as a site for practical work and research for students and teaching staff, as well as a site for the conservation of germplasm of fruit plants and humid tropical medicinal plants.
Main facilities: a training building with a capacity of 100 people, guest house, agricultural mechanization equipment workshop, compost house, drying floor, green house, as well as chicken and cattle pens.
Services: practical work and research, plant cultivation training, the production of organic fertilizer and botanical pesticides, integrated pest management, as well as post-harvest technology.
