Field Work Practice (PKL) is a compulsory practical course in the curriculum of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unmul, that gives students direct experience in the business/industry world (DU/DI). Through PKL, students apply agricultural science and technology, become familiar with the professional work environment, and develop soft skills, critical thinking, and professional communication. These guidelines refer to Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2024 on National Higher Education Standards and Rector of Universitas Mulawarman Regulation No. 5 of 2023.

Objectives

  1. To provide students with an opportunity to gain additional knowledge, skills, and field experience in order to develop creativity.
  2. To train students to identify, formulate, seek alternative solutions, and make decisions on field problems in accordance with their field of study.
  3. To broaden students' insight in their respective fields of study.
  4. To foster a synergistic relationship between educational institutions and external partners (DU/DI) in order to improve the quality of education.

Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK)

  • CPMK 1 - able to prepare a PKL Proposal in accordance with their field of study and present it in writing.
  • CPMK 2 - able to carry out the PKL according to the work program with the partner and demonstrate professional performance.
  • CPMK 3 - able to present the report orally.
  • CPMK 4 - able to prepare a PKL Report in accordance with their field of study and present it in writing.

General Provisions

  • PKL carries a weight of 2 credits, requiring a minimum of 26 effective working days in the field.
  • Students may take part in PKL if they have accumulated at least 75 credits with no grade E and a minimum GPA of 2.00 (Rector of Unmul Regulation No. 5 of 2023).
  • The PKL activity report is submitted to the faculty no later than 1 (one) month after the program ends.
  • The briefing is mandatory (twice a year, in the odd and even semesters); students who do not attend the full briefing are not allowed to take part in PKL.

Requirements for PKL Partners

PKL partners are institutions/companies that host students, including:

  1. State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) in agriculture in the broad sense.
  2. Regionally Owned Enterprises (BUMD) in agriculture in the broad sense.
  3. Agricultural companies in the broad sense and other companies related to agriculture.
  4. Food processing industries.
  5. Agricultural training and extension centers, farmer groups (top class), and cooperatives active for at least 1 year.
  6. Small, medium, and large industries.
  7. Government agencies or institutions in the field of agriculture in the broad sense.

Roles and Activity Components

  • Field supervisor - a professional from the partner appointed to guide students in the field.
  • PKL supervising lecturer - a teaching staff member appointed by the Study Program Coordinator to guide students comprehensively.
  • PKL seminar - the presentation of PKL results by students.
  • PKL report - the report manuscript (hard copy and soft copy) approved by the supervisor, acknowledged by the Study Program Coordinator, and endorsed by the Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs.
  • Monitoring - a one-time random check per PKL implementation period by the supervisor.
  • Log sheet - the daily activity worksheet signed by the field supervisor and the supervising lecturer.

Implementation Procedure

Stages of PKL implementation: participant registration, supervisor appointment, preparation of the PKL proposal, partner application, briefing, implementation at the partner location (with rules of conduct), monitoring and supervision, report preparation, the PKL seminar, the final report, and assessment. Assessment uses rubrics for the PKL proposal, implementation, seminar, and report. Violations of the provisions are subject to sanctions in accordance with the guidelines.
